In order to give impetus, visibility and avenues for Catalan non-fiction projects, the La Inesperada festival has created the EXIT section for works in development. In its second edition, five projects have been selected: Fósiles del mar blanco (Fossils of the White Sea) by Lina Gorbaneva; Turismo de Guerra (War Tourism) by Kikol Grau; Patarinos by Zeltia Outeiriño; Kao Mali List (Like a Little Leaf) by Manel Raga and El projecte Pisoft (The Pisoft Project) by Rubén Seca.
FÓSILES DEL MAR BLANCO
Director: Lina Gorbaneva
Synopsis: As part of the process of re-inheriting enemies into Bolsheviks, the Soviet authorities conceived of the Gulag as a “museum” where prisoners could be viewed one last time as endangered specimens: the aristocrat, the landowner, the bourgeois and the criminal, before their final transformation. One of the most Dantean horrors of the Gulag was the construction of the White Sea Canal, where thousands of prisoners were forced to dig a pharaonic canal in the frozen Karelian land, connecting the White Sea to the Baltic. Fossils of the White Sea is a film essay that questions the utopian ideas that forged the construction of the first forced labour camp, where cynicism and utopia were inseparable from each other.
About the author: Daughter of Soviet diplomats exiled in Barcelona, trained in Art History, she is an actress and playwright. She is currently finishing her thesis on the narrative of the “social vestige” in the USSR at the UPF, where she teaches Slavic Aesthetics. As an actress, she has participated in films by Isaki Lacuesta, Julio Medem, Jiajie Yu, Aida Ramazanova and Santiago Fillol. As a playwright, she co-wrote Kikimora (2013), acted in Tres Germanes Reload (Ona Sallas, 2019) and is currently developing Año nuevo en Solovkí (theatrical repertoire in the first Gulag in history), presented at Sala Beckett in 2021 as a work in progress.

KAO MALI LIST

Synopsis: Kao Mali List (Like a Little Leaf) is a film composed by three different stories, which take place in different locations from Bosnia, but that are connected by the night, rain, dreams, ruins, football or the barking of dogs… connected by a shared memory and time, a time that is deeply marked by war, that like a huge underground river keeps crossing the full country.
About the author: After co-directing the documentary short film Matando el sueño (2009), he completed a M.A. in Filmmaking at ESCAC in Barcelona. Since 2010 he has worked as a filmmaker with La Fura dels Baus and in 2013 premiered the short film La Gallina in Venice Film Festival. In 2017, he completed a PhD of Liberal Arts in Filmmaking at film.factory (Sarajevo), a school directed by Béla Tarr. In 2018, he presented the short film Grbavica in Locarno Film Festival and in 2019, he premiered Homenatge a Judes in Doclisboa, where it won the best short film award. In 2022 he participated in the Berlinale Talents.
EL PROJECTE PISOFT

The three guest experts who will share their visions of the projects are:
- James Lattimer, programmer and critic, has been part of the selection committee of the Berlinale Forum since 2011 and has been programming consultant for Viennale since 2018. Artistic curator of DocumentaMadrid 2020 and 2021. As a critic he publishes in Cine Scope, Sight and Sound, The Brooklyn Rail, Fireflies and is co-editor of TEXTUR.
- Lluís Miñarro, producer and filmmaker, founder of the production company Eddie Saeta, has produced more than 40 feature films, working with filmmakers such as Isabel Coixet, José Luis Guerin, Manoel de Oliveira, Albert Serra, Naomi Kawase and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, among others. Director of films such as Stella candente (2014) and Love me not (2019).
- Serrana Torres, filmmaker, producer and screenwriter, co-founder of the production company IntropiaMedia, has produced films such as Oleg y las raras artes by Andrés Duque (2016), Transoceánicas by Meritxell Colell and Lucía Vasallo (2020), and the transmedia project Las sin sombrero, co-directed with Tania Balló and Manuel Jiménez (2015).
EXIT will be held at the headquarters of SGAE Catalunya on Thursday 2/3/23 from 09:00 to 17:30. The session will be moderated by Núria Giménez Lorang. Language of the session: Spanish. It will be divided into the following parts:
> First part. 9:00 – 10:45. Exhibition of Turismo de Guerra and Fósiles del Mar Blanco. 10:45 – 11:15. Coffee break. 11:15 – 13:30. Exhibition of Kao Mali List, Patarinos and El Projecte Pisoft. Open to the public with registration.
> Second part. 15:30 – 17:30. One-to-one sessions with the panel of experts. Other interested people, please contact the festival.
